What to expect during a clinical Trial:
All clinical research trials are different, but generally you can expect a high-level, concierge service during your experience. Depending on the clinical trial, you will most likely have several visits throughout the period of the research study.
Usually, you will have a visual acuity assessment, an assessment of an illnesses or changes in medications since your last study visit, measurement of the eye pressure and dilation of the pupils, and an eye exam by the doctor at all study visits.
Depending upon the study, the investigational medication being studied may be an injection into the eye, a medication that is given orally, or a medication that is given in the form of an eye drop. This varies widely by study, so be sure to ask your Research Coordinator or doctor if you have any questions.
All patients participating in clinical trials can further expect to have a dedicated, passionate team of medical professionals caring for your vision.
Screening Process:
Should you agree to participate in a clinical trial, you must complete the screening process to ensure you qualify for the study. During a screening you may undergo the following assessments.
- Review and sign an informed consent form, after your questions are answered and the physician feels you adequately understand the consent.
- A visual acuity exam
- Measurement of eye pressure, dilation of the pupils, thorough review of your health history and current medications.
- Measurement of your vitals, weight, height, blood pressure and heart rate.
- Ocular Images
- Complete Ophthalmic Exam
- Collection of blood and urine samples.
- Electrocardiogram
What happens after the screening:
Once all screening procedures have been completed, the research team shares the data with the study sponsor to ensure you are eligible to participate. Once eligibility has been confirmed by the study sponsor, you will then be enrolled into the clinical trial. Your assigned research coordinator will work with you throughout the entire process.
